Cafe’s Newcastle

One Year of Crepeaffaire in Newcastle

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been going up the escalator from the Monument entrance to Eldon Square and spotted Crepeaffaire tucked away in the corner, with that unmistakeable smell of pancakes floating up after me. One of those places I’ve kept meaning to try, I finally got my chance this week when I was invited with my friend Lucy to try out their menu.

We arrived to the cute little corner spot and were instructed by the staff to sit where we liked, peruse the menu and then order up at the counter. For a small space there’s plenty seating, including proper tables, a coffee style area with low tables and comfy chairs, little two person tables and a high bar around the corner.

The first thing I noticed on our way to sit down was the fresh fruit in baskets, and the breakfast table in the middle. There was everything you might want for a quick breakfast or brunch, either to sit in or on the go.

Porridge, waffles, roll up crepes and croissants. The thought of washing any of those down with a hot coffee or fresh orange juice really makes me wish I worked in the centre of town. I’d be there every morning especially as everything as available to take away too.

On Monday night though we were there for the crepes. It took a while to decide which to have, with a full menu of savoury, all day breakfast and sweet options available. Lucy is being good through the week, so decided to opt for the savoury choice of Chicken Supreme, with pulled chicken, mushrooms, spinach, tomato and cheese.

I have a lot less willpower to be good, and had heard good things about their luxury sweet options. While I was very tempted with the Forrero Rocher extravagance, I went for the ‘I’ll Have What She’s Having’, that is packed full of strawberries, nutella or Belgian chocolate and whipped cream.

For drinks, I had a strawberry milkshake, again tempted with the Oreo one but thought it might be a bit much with all the chocolate in my crepe, and Lucy had the Strawberry Split smoothie.

The menu really is impressive, and there are gluten free and vegan options available too, as well as a create your own crepe that allows you to fill it with your own mix of fillings.

Our crepes arrived quickly, and were packed full. I managed to get a couple of photos before they disappeared. Lucy was pretty chuffed with her savoury choice, and said they weren’t shy on the fillings, and my sweet option was so good! It wasn’t too sickly and despite being pretty big I polished mine off too.

The milkshake and smoothies were very refreshing, and a great compliment to the crepes. We both left feeling completely full, and convinced that crepes aren’t just for pancake day.

Crepeaffaire is a definite quick and cheerful option for any time of day, especially if you’re on the go to or from work, need a sweet coffee break, or a more indulgent treat as a break from shopping.

Maybe you’d go for the Rum and Raisin delight, with banana, butterscotch, rum syrup and raisins, or a Salted Caramel Popcorn shake with vanilla ice cream and salted caramel drizzled over? I’d definitely go back, and fancy trying their coffee with a breakfast crepe one weekend for brunch.

This week marks one year since Crepeaffaire opened in Newcastle, and to celebrate they’re giving a glass of fizz to all customers after 5pm on Thursday 23rd November. Throughout this week if you pay them a visit you also might be lucky enough to get a voucher for a free return visit too.

I’d definitely go for the luxury sweet option too, it looks so good! I visited Crepe Affair many many moons ago when I lived in Wimbledon but not made it to the Newcastle one yet! I love the idea of breakfast, great tip!

Oooo Ferrero Rocher? That sounds amazing. I’d quite like to go for brunch one day. Pancakes are my favourite thing to eat! Katie x

I’ve loved watching everyone’s photos from Crepeaffaire – I think my three would LOVE it if I suggested going here for lunch. I am pretty simple when it comes to toppings and don’t think you can beat lemon and sugar. I would like to try a savoury pancake one day though……
