Keswick Looking Cute!

I did have a big juicy post planned for today but I’m currently in the Lake District for Kieran’s mums 50th birthday, and lots of food, alcohol, and hot tub sessions have kind of taken over my life. Shame eh? Yesterday we went into Keswick for a potter about and a look around the shops. We all know I love a good ‘door photo’ and as we wandered around the little streets with their slate walls and country pubs, we found that Keswick has plenty cute little doors of it’s own.

Proving it’s not just Notting Hill that has a colour fetish when it comes to decorating doors…

It’s a complete world away from Notting Hill in reality. Anyone who frequently visits the Lake District will know that it’s usually raining, and has a definite grey feel to it.

The landscape is absolutely stunning whatever the weather, (see my post on Buttermere for proof), but its been bright and sunny the past few days, so the true prettiness of Keswick has been a lot more obvious!

There were also signs dotted about announcing Keswick in bloom, and the local cafes and pubs have definitely made the effort to contribute.

Even the banks were joining in.

I actually felt like I saw Keswick in a whole new light, I found cafes I didn’t know existed, and saw old favourites in all their Lakeland glory while it was so quiet. It’s such a small place that’s hard to believe, but it just shows how much difference a bit of sun makes. It was a Monday so there was no market, and before the school holidays so very few kids either.

There were lots of dogs including a very cute pug called Amber, and of course my old pal, Ye Olde Friars sweetshop. That bad lad never changes, full to the brim with chocolates and sweets, and I may have purchased some prosecco truffles. I also discovered it’s actually pink!

One of the cutest little places in Keswick has to be the Wild Strawberry Cafe. Serving tea, coffee and all sorts of sweet treats, but I think ‘Keswick in Bloom’ was just made for that place…

What you really should do if you’re ever walking down the main market square in the centre of the town, is duck along some of the little archway alleys. They are hard to spot on a busy day, but there’s all sorts of hidden treasures to be found in some of the little side streets. Cheese shops, ice cream parlours, and little beer gardens to name a few.

If you don’t have much time in the area but want to grasp a little bit of the more remote Lake District life, such as actually seeing some water, then take a walk along the signposted path to the lake.

It will take you past a crazy golf course, and a perfectly preened public garden right down to the lake. Grab an ice cream from the little shop too, the blackcurrant was divine, and they do special ones for pooches. There’s plenty cuteness to take in once you get to the Lake too.

We took a boat ride around the lake, taking in the views and incredible nature to be seen from the water.

So my big post has been shifted to later in the week, because sometimes you just need to chill and enjoy the place you’re at. Keswick was too cute not to share with you though.

Gorgeous photos! We’ve only been to the Lakes once since living in the North East and that doesn’t really count cos we were on Minimoon and didn’t really leave our hotel spa! When we were driving home through all the gorgeous countryside I was saying we need to revisit and so far, 9 months later, we haven’t made it!

[…] had two very short weeks at work, with days off for birthdays and a trip to the Lake District. I could very much get used to hot tub sessions at 9am on a Monday […]
