Tyneside Cinema Christmas Showcase

Insert joke here about how it’s only August and way too early to be talking about Christmas. Now let’s move on. I’ve had a definite increase in Christmas emails the last couple of weeks, with a lot of places opening up bookings for parties, restaurants and events. I’ve got friends with kids who are even struggling to get booked in for things that are already fully booked. So let’s just say it pays to be organised when it comes to Christmas fun this year, and Tyneside Cinema have plenty to offer those who are looking for just that.

Disclaimer: This was a paid collaboration for coverage of Tyneside Cinema’s Christmas showcase.

If watching Christmas films isn’t one of the best things to do in December on the run up to Christmas then I don’t know what is. This year take your festive film watching that step further with one of the many offers and experiences that Tyneside Cinema are offering.

A cinema that’s just a bit different, I do love this old fashioned theatre turned digital arts venue, with a great bar, good food options, and a really diverse program on offer all the time.

For Christmas they’ve pulled out the stops, to make watching festive flicks much more of an occasion, right in the heart of Newcastle. Here’s my picks of what’s on offer:

Family Christmas Events at Tyneside Cinema

The Grinch Family Event – 7th December.

As well as the screening of the film itself, there’s a Grinch Family event available to book, involving a live action remake, and the chance to meet the Grinch himself. Great for kids in itself, but the event also includes green Grinch shakes and cookies.

The Polar Express Family Event – 7th, 8th, 14th, 15th and 23rd December

I’ve got to say I’m a secret fan of this film, and this family event sounds really amazing with all the extra details. Children will be sent a golden ticket for the Polar Express just like in the film ahead of the screening, and encouraged to wear pyjamas and dressing gowns too.

Everyone will be served hot chocolate and gingerbread to enjoy while watching the film, before meeting Santa Claus who will arrive at the end. Tyneside Cinema have gone the extra mile with this one and I think it’s a great concept.

For those who don’t want the full works the Polar Express is of course showing as just the film too, and there is a relaxed screening of it if required. These include quite sound, subtitles, carers go free, and you can move around if required.

Christmas Classics  – throughout December

There’s old favourites like It’s A Wonderful Life on the screenings list, but of course with a Christmas twist. Some screenings have a choir to serenade you with carols before the film starts, some have a jazz duo, or go all out with the It’s a Wonderful Life Afternoon Tea experience.

Traditional afternoon tea is served before the film, with sandwiches, cakes, scones with jam, unlimited tea or coffee, and the option to upgrade to a glass of fizz too.

Other Christmas classic films showing are White Christmas and The Bishop’s Wife. If you don’t go for the afternoon tea, mulled wine and a mince pie will do!

Girls night out – 13th December

One of the more modern Christmas films, The Holiday is one of my favourites, and it’s showing on a Friday night in December so perfect for a girls chilled night out. There’s only this one showing, and everyone attending will get a survival pack to get you through the film.

Chocolate, popcorn, prosecco, and a pack of tissues for the emotional parts. That scene where she’s crying away in her little English cottage gets me every time!

Additional Christmas Movie Fun

Festive Double Bills

Home Alone, the all time top Christmas film ever. There’s a double bill of both Home Alone films back to back on Saturday 14th December.

Or enjoy Bruce Willis in his white vest for the Die Hard double bill on Saturday 7th December.
