Coastal Stays In Tynemouth & Cullercoats With BAYCAY
In recent years the North Tyneside coast has become more popular than ever for visitors coming here looking for a North East staycation. With the beautiful coast and beaches, an abundance of local food and drink places, boutique shops, very dog friendly and lots of character, it’s not hard to see why. If you’re looking for a coastal staycation in a private home, then look no further than BAYCAY who offer just that, with their two fantastic accommodations that cater to both couples and families.
BAYCAY have Longsands Home, a two bedroom house that sleeps four just minutes from Tynemouth beach, and Paupie’s Place in Cullercoats, a two bedroom flat that sleeps three minutes from Cullercoats Bay.
Both places have been done up to a high spec with beautiful furnishings, unique features, and a local touch from Adrianne the host – who is the friendliest lass and takes great pride in both her homes. They are also both dog friendly so you can bring your dog to enjoy a taste of coastal living too – they’ll love the beach!
Longsands Home, Tynemouth
Tynemouth has been voted one of the best places to live multiple times, including by the Sunday Times in 2022, and in my opinion it just gets better. BAYCAY’s Longsands Home is in the perfect spot to take advantage of all that Tynemouth has to offer, and get a taste of coastal life for however long you decide to stay.
The house itself is an absolute gem, in an estate just minutes from the sea front and the centre of Tynemouth village, with driveway parking – you have no idea how beneficial that is for this location!
What you notice the second you walk in the front door is how uniquely it has been decorated, and to such a high standard. It’s all in the details and that is true of every room. There is an entrance and hallway that then leads through into the living room, which in turn leads straight through to the open plan kitchen and dining area.
There is plenty of space for four adults to sit around the TV or cosy up by the feature fireplace, and spot the local artwork on the walls of the must visit villages for during your stay – Tynemouth, Cullercoats and Whitley Bay.
Through to the kitchen this has to be the best room in the house, with impeccable design and styling, there is plenty of space if you prefer to cook in, with an island in the middle – everyone loves a sociable kitchen. To add to this the bar cart sits proudly to the side of the bench dining table.
Floor to ceiling glass doors lead outside to the garden, which has two seating areas including one around a fire pit, and a covered hot tub in the back corner for you to enjoy. There is both patio and grass space, and a BBQ perfect for sunny summer days.
Upstairs the two bedrooms again are so unique, with the master being the most beautiful with a dressing table, full length mirrors and a bold colour scheme. It’s like something out of a magazine.
The second bedroom is also a double, with clothing space, bold colours and will comfortably accommodate two adults. There is a family bathroom with a double shower too. My favourite bit about upstairs – aside from that main bedroom – are the photographs on the walls.
These are all black and white of local landmarks, iconic spots and places across the North East. They’re by a local photographer and if you’re visiting over a weekend, you could purchase them yourself from her stand at Tynemouth Market each Saturday and Sunday.
Tynemouth can get pretty busy especially if the weather is good, at weekends, and through the summer, so Longsands Home is a great base to retreat to that allows you to enjoy everything happening at the coast but with your own tranquil space to relax.
As well as Tynemouth beach, King Edwards Bay, and Tynemouth Front Street with all sorts of places to get food or enjoy a few drinks, you’re also walking distance from Cullercoats and Whitley Bay – a popular coastal dog walk, or the metro station from which you can get up to Newcastle city centre in less than half an hour.
If you’re staying at Longsands Home, my top tips not to miss would be:
Coffee from Cullercoats Coffee, Regular Jo’s or Woods, or a smoothie from Priory Press
Local shopping at Tynemouth market, Artichoke, Cove Lifestyle Studios and To the Moon & Back
Restaurants including Riley’s Fish Shack on the beach, Allards and Gulshan.
For more information on Longsands Home and how to book, see the BAYCAY instagram here. My full house tour reel can also be viewed here.
Paupie’s Place, Cullercoats
Paupie’s Place is the second home owned by BAYCAY, this time located in Cullercoats but still just a few minutes walk from the sea front and all that has to offer – Cullercoats Bay a popular spot for sea dippers and paddle boarders, and the Cullercoats centre with its coffee shops, fish and chips and a couple of restaurants.
There is free street parking available here, as Paupie’s Place is an upstairs, two bedroom flat. Similar to Longsands Home it is decorated beautifully, but is a smaller spot ideal for two adults looking for a seaside escape.
The main living area is gorgeous, very homely with an electric burner, a very cute workstation if you need to connect or work remotely, and comfy sofas and a TV. Of course spot the local artwork on the walls especially the pieces from the House Outfit.
The living room leads through to the kitchen, where your welcome hamper will be waiting for you – locally sourced, and this again leads through to the stairs to outside. Here you will find a yarden with seating around a fire pit where you can relax if the weather is good.
There are two bedrooms at Paupie’s Place, the main double with a four poster, a dressing table and clothing storage. It’s really spacious and modern, and next door is the single room which has more of a boho feel to it.
Like Longsands Home, Paupie’s is also dog friendly, and in a perfect spot for enjoying all the dog friendly places Cullercoats has to offer. It’s probably the most dog friendly spot on the coastline. You’re not far from Cullercoats metro station if you wanted to venture further afield too.
You can see Paupie’s Place in more detail on my reel here. If you do visit, my top tips not to miss would be:
A sea dip followed by Cullercoats Coffee, brunch at The Boatyard, fish and chips from Bills, and food at either the Salthouse or High Tide. Chloe Mae’s is also great for sweet treats!
Stay in Tynemouth & Cullercoats With BayCay
What shines through in both Longsands Home and Paupie’s Place is the evident care and attention to detail that Adrianne has put into both making them a really welcoming space for guests to really enjoy. Having your own private base along the coast is an ideal stay, as you can really make the most of everything within walking distance.
Having spent time at both places, and getting to know Adrianne I can confidently say that she has created two excellent accommodation options for anyone seeking a seaside staycation here. Both different from each other but both very much encompassing the local culture and charm of the area.
