Essentials: Uber eats, wine, Netflix 🍷

At the coast my favourite uber eats are @sushi.me.rollin - this was the ‘Spice Up Your Life’ with salmon, and tuna maki 🍣

Others frequently offered are BrackBurger, Scream for Pizza and Pablo Eggs Go Bao 🛵

🚨 Stay safe during the storm and don’t be daft going near the sea it’s madness how many times the lifeguards been called just the last few weeks!

Easy North East Dog Walks 🐾

Arthur loves a walk but being a pug he can’t do big hikes, so we go for fairly easy, mostly flat walks and definitely a pub or cafe at the end. He was always the dog for me 😂

All these have that and even the ones slightly further away from the coast or Newcastle can be done in a day or half a day trip.

There were lots of details like parking postcodes and cafe recommendations that can’t fit into a reel so there’s a blog post coming with all that info in I’ll share once it’s up 🐾

The Potted Lobster 🦞 Bamburgh

If I’m asked what my favourite restaurant is, this is definitely top 3. I rarely say anywhere is ‘the best’ but I’ve yet to find a better seafood spot - and there’s some cracking ones on the North East coast 🌊

We went for lunch during our girls weekend to Bamburgh and as always it was amazing. We had:

To start: Lindisfarne oysters, an entire sourdough with salted butter served warm, gambas pil pil, smoked haddock chowder, and Beth had another starter off the specials board I can’t remember what - something with chorizo.

For main courses two of us had the lobster with garlic butter👌🏼🤤 and the others had two of the daily fish specials from the board. These change depending on the catch of the day.

With no designated driver needed we washed it down with a bottle of Whispering ✨ 10/10 immaculate vibes

If you’ve not been and enjoy seafood you must go, it has a dog friendly area, outside seating in summer and books up weeks in advance.

Newcastle to North Yorkshire 🛣️

ad| At the weekend Arthur and I went for a quiet, country escape to Masham, North Yorkshire, where we stayed at the Kings Head, a @chefandbrewer pub with excellent dog friendly rooms and facilities.

Masham itself was gorgeous, quaint little streets and local shops. The Kings Head is right on the main town square so after checking in we went for our evening walk around the town, found the Theakston Brewery, and back through the churchyard for golden hour.

From countryside to fireside, the pub was so cosy to warm up in afterwards, with a real local welcoming atmosphere and a menu full of traditional British favourites. Exactly what you need in a freezing cold January!

Arthur snoozed on a blanket while I tucked in to the steak and ale pie with mash and gravy👌🏼 I would go back just for that again I’ve been talking about it ever since.

After a lovely hotel breakfast the next day we pottered around the town for a while, sadly I wasn’t there for market day though, before checking out and heading to nearby Richmond for a river walk along by Richmond Falls.

The Kings Head was perfect for me and Arthur, far enough away for a change of scenery but not too far - it took just over an hour to get there. Plenty of scenic country walks nearby, good pub scran and the Yorkshire hospitality that never disappoints.

Chef & Brewer have pubs all over the UK that fit with this same character, and I’d absolutely stay with them again.

🛎️ lovely staff who couldn’t do enough for you, and they love dogs!
🥾 lots of walking routes and trails, including the Masham leaf trail, circular walks through other nearby towns, Richmond Falls, Fountains Abbey and close to the Yorkshire Dales
📍 you could also visit towns like Harrogate, Thirsk, Ripon and Richmond
🐾 blankets, treats and bowls in the pub

A bit ashamed to admit until I moved further along the coast this way I hadn’t ever been to @scottandwilsonbar

I went for breakfast and was a big fan of the Scott stack breakfast in a bun, extra side of hashy bs obviously followed by Bloody Mary’s and mimosas 🍹

SGC 💕 how to go solo glamping!

If you’re not yet travelling solo then glamping is a good place to start. Trips like this with Arthur are some of my favourite ones to do especially if you get somewhere really good, more ‘glam’ than ‘camping’!

Here’s my tips for solo glamping, it is harder than you think practically until you get used to it, I still have flashbacks to trying to scramble up a muddy hill in the rain with a wheelbarrow and Arthur.

Ok so I wouldn’t say I’m ‘ready’ just yet

Ok so I wouldn’t say I’m ‘ready’ just yet as there is still forever to go in January and it’s 1 degree today, BUT…

I have seen snowdrops, even a tulip, and people are starting to comment it’s lighter at 4pm.

So I’m not yet ‘ready’, but I am looking forward to my coffee being iced not my hands, sitting outside, Aldi’s seasonal middle aisle, spring menus, a hot cross bun, pretty flowers, the sun rising earlier every day and setting later 🌷

Just me or is everyone still enjoying the bleak midwinter?

A luxury apartment stay in Bamburgh ✨

ad| You don’t get many places like this right in the middle of historic Northumberland towns, especially Bamburgh. @theapartmentbamburgh was our fabulous stay at the weekend, taking up the entire floor above @themiddleinnbamburgh it’s been beautifully converted into a self catering apartment. (discount code at the end)

It honestly had everything and it really made our weekend so relaxing, comfortable and easy:

🛌 Two big bedrooms, a gorgeous master with dressing table, tv, walk in dressing area and en suite bathroom, and a second double that could be made into a twin, also with dressing table, tv and wardrobe
☕️ Kitchen with a dining table, smeg fridge, coffee machine, and literally everything in those cupboards you could need for eating in, families (kids plates and cutlery provided) and groups. There was a separate utility with washing machine
🛋️ A big living room also with dining area, corner sofa, TV, window seat overlooking Bamburgh. Board games, wifi, netflix etc all included
🐾 dog friendly with a big bed and bowls provided
🚗 free parking right outside this was a dream for carrying all our stuff and shopping
🧺 the details were also very well thought of for a Northumberland stay, a picnic basket for summer, two golf umbrellas provided, shoe rack for muddy/sandy shoes, just lots of little conveniences
🍻 it’s right above the pub, you don’t even need to leave the building to get a pint or glass of wine, we had some bar snacks by the fire our first night which was lovely. And their beer garden out the back in summer

I can’t recommend this place enough, I think it will book up so far in advance, especially in such an incredible central location. It was a 1 minute walk to the Potted Lobster, Lord Crewe, local butcher and tea rooms all on the same street. And Bamburgh Castle and beach right on the doorstep too.

ad| For @newcastlene1 restaurant week last night we went to @doodncl on the quayside, I’d been wanting to try it since it opened. It’s gorgeous in there, across three floors overlooking the river.

To start we had hummus and pita, olivier salad of new potatoes, shredded chicken and a greek yoghurt dressing, and padron peppers in chilli - they were my favourite 👌🏼

Mains we shared the chicken kebab marinaded in saffron, and the grilled spiced lamb, with Persian rice and chips. It was all delicious and really good sized portions. I think it will be a popular spot as it was very authentic, and the staff were so lovely.

Last week I went to The Cove in Tynemouth and had some drinks and a few small plates. It’s had a full refit since it used to be Ora, and I think it’s much nicer with a bigger bar and more seating downstairs. It’s also now dog friendly which is great as Ora never was except outside.

We had the calamari, chicken goujons and the garlic prawns and they were all great, with wine and I tried the signature Cove cocktail which was bright blue and tasted like coconut. I’d necked it before I thought to take a pic though sorry!

They have a new menu, and I spotted they also now do tasting events with paired wine flights which I’d really like to try some time.
