Festive Afternoon tea at Matfen Hall ✨

a d| Indulging in festive elegance at Northumberland’s only 5-star hotel, @matfenhall with my mum 🥂

Honestly whether you would usually enjoy afternoon tea or not I promise you would here at Matfen. There are so many good ones across the North East but the Matfen Hall experience really elevates it simply for the setting and attention to detail.

You arrive at the house which has been decorated throughout I lost count of how many twinkly Christmas trees there were. For a house so big it’s warm and cosy by all the huge fireplaces, even in the pale blue Drawing Room which is where we were served.

Silverware polished to perfection - Mr Carson would be proud, and champagne on ice served as you wait the food ✨

Food wise there were festive twists across all three layers. I’ll start with the sweets as they’re always the main event - the chestnut and blackcurrant patisserie was my favourite, and the gingerbread scone with homemade Christmas jam just tasted like Christmas. There was also a ‘Hot Chocolate’ dessert with milk chocolate and cinnamon.

The savoury plate included the slow-cooked turkey breast with sage and onion stuffing sandwich and a parma ham and brie.

We had a fabulous few hours watching the geese across the golf course, the outside decorations light up as it got darker, and slowly making our way through all the food. A real treat 🍾

Matfen Hall festive afternoon tea is abailable Tuesday to Saturday, 12-4pm, until 4th January. As Violet Bridgerton would say it was, ‘enchanting’ ✨

ad| The @ticketsncl festive cocktails are back and there’s a mix of old favourites from last year and some new additions, I tried them out last week 🎟️

The Tinsel-tini, Festive Royale and Butterbeer have all returned, I tried the Butterbeer for the first time and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I also had the mulled negroni which I liked it wasn’t as sweet as some of the others.

Santas helper is a new elf green one, and there’s a black forrest one that I think was my favourite.

Tickets is great for if you’re out around central station, or if you’re heading off on the train/just getting back from a day out. It’s very Christmassy in there too ✨🎅🏼🎟️🚂

Christmas Market trip to Malmö from Newcastle🎄🇸🇪

ad| I’ve just spent the last few days in Malmö, Sweden on one of @jet2pics Christmas market trips. Do you know that many of their Christmas market breaks fly to airports that are then really easy to go on to another city, or combine more than one city in your trip?

✈️ I flew to Copenhagen, which if you’ve followed me longer than a few years you’ll know used to be like a second home for me. This time I got the train over the Øresund bridge to Sweden which takes less than half an hour and cost £14, it’s actually closer than Malmo airport and their public transport is excellent.

🇸🇪 my hotel in Malmo was 5 minutes from Central Station on the main square Stortorget, @scandickramer as part of the package, and I spent the weekend enjoying Malmö’s Christmas market, amazing food spots, and beautiful streets.

🎄 the Christmas market is on Thursdays to Sundays in December and has lots of traditional Swedish stalls, the apple glogg was my favourite. The people are so friendly too.

✨ There are three main squares all very close together and all decorated beautifully. All the Scandi vibes, Lilla Torg was my favourite for the old colourful buildings and festive cocktails on the cobbles.

🧳 It’s been a lovely way to start December, you can book for next years Jet 2 trip now at £60pp deposit, 5th December from Newcastle. If you don’t want to go on to Malmo you can spend it in Copenhagen, I’m heading back there today for old times sake and before I fly home 🇩🇰

ad| I recently did a course of Exion facial radio frequency & ultrasound, and radio frequency micro-needling with @novellus_ncl - I’ve gone here for years and wouldnt trust anyone else with my face - including aesthetics but these treatments are NON invasive skin treatments.

Appointments were with specialist @by_skinderella - I swear she makes the whole experience. Shes like your best mate the instant you meet her & will give you a thorough consultation. She has a very refreshing take on skincare and looking after yourself, makes you feel so comfortable and is one of those people you just click with ⭐️

Exion facial
The radio frequency ultrasound treatment is like a natural facelift to stimulate & increase hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastin production. Tightens, lifts, sculpts - all the good stuff.

I found this so relaxing, under the blanket with a hot ultrasound pen sculpting your face leaving a rosy glow. I really enjoyed it and would recommend to anyone who uses gua sha’s, or that facial massage thing people try to get you to buy on social media that doesnt work. This does! ✅

Best results are after 3 months but I noticed a difference after 2 and so did other people commenting on my skin at the fenwicks beauty night. I’ll take that as you can’t say they couldn’t see my face in all its glory under all the beauty hall lights ✨

Microneedling radio frequency
A rejuvenation treatment to improve skin imperfections, texture, acne, scars, wrinkles, stretch marks and you can have it in more areas. Mine targeted old spot scars and some discolouration from the sun.

It feels prickly warm, I was sensitive around my mouth & nose so Roz used a numbing cream which really helped. It’s less relaxing than the facial but afterwards felt good like youve had a day in the sun and your skin feels tight and healthy 😊

Only thing is you cant wear anything on your skin for 48 hours after and can be a bit red, so need to make sure you clear your diary.

I’ll do a full blog post on this with more detail as ran out of space!
