It took a few years but finally felt like my normal self again this summer 🥹 They say the happiest demographic are solo women in their 30s, 💯 I can see it.

There’s been best friend weddings, boujee holidays, work trips to Vegas, bucket list hotels, lots of firsts - Barcelona, Cornwall, the most shocking being an online PT sorry who am I?

But it’s all the bits in between that matter and how happy you are when you climb into bed at night and wake up first thing in the morning.

Forest Spa, Middleton Lodge 🌿

This time last year I booked a full spa day with lunch and treatment at @middletonlodge beautiful Forest Spa and felt like I was in another country.

Here’s why the first week of September is the time to go:

🌿 it was quiet with most people back to school/work
🌿 the weather was still so warm - despite what the seasonal aisles in every shop are telling you we’re forecast a lot of sun and warm temps for at least another week - enjoy the outdoor pool and loungers
🌿 al fresco lunch is the one

Wine by the pool after a massage and the sound of spa bubbles is the therapy we all need 🫧

ad| The guys who own two of my favourite Northumberland restaurants - the Potted Lobster in Bamburgh and the Whittling House in Alnmouth have now also taken over Bertram’s in Warkworth!

If you’ve been to either you’ll know you’re in for some top quality locally sourced food and @bertrams_warkworth is no different. Right in the town centre so easy to find, the evening menu has a really good selection to choose from.

For starter I went for the oxtail and haggis croquettes with Worcester cream and they were amazing, I’d go back for just those again. I struggled to choose from a few options the squid and the soup both sounded great too.

Main I had the sirloin beef with proper chips, cooked perfectly - only really picky slight thing missing was maybe a steak side sauce but it was delicious. Other choices were North Sea cod, crab crusted hake, buttered chicken or slow cooked blade of beef with truffle mash.

I was pretty full but had to have the raspberry ripple roll. All in all a 10/10 meal especially if you’re staying up there and can also make the most of the wine list.

Horticulture comes coastal! 🍹🌊

It’s been a long time coming but @horticulturecoastal opened their doors yesterday on the corner of Whitley Road. It’s got everything you know and love about @horticulturencl - brunch by day and cocktails by night.

The brunch menu is great there’s pancakes, ‘muckle’ full English, breakfast sarnies, loaded hash browns and shakshuka type dishes. I had the chorizo hash 👌🏼 and a smoothie followed by a Bloody Mary.

In the evening there’s music and cocktails including a good selection of their famous espresso martini menu and a cracking spicy marg 🌶️ 🍸

🐾 dog friendly
🚗 parking on Whitley Road but it’s limited and always chaos so if you can get the metro or walk

Pay a visit if you’re coming to the coast for the North Sea Big Weekender this weekend!

Ad| @sharkclub_uk have revamped Toon match days both (H) and (A) ready for this season, I went before the game last weekend to try it out

🏴 all live televised matches across more screens than you can count
🏳️ VIP tables, booths, private spaces - you can now book tables on match days to secure a spot, walk ins also available
🏴 new match day drinks packages starting with bronze package at £100 for 10 bottles of lager, a bottle of wine and a bottle of prosecco, going up to the VIP package for £500
🏳️ open even earlier on match days from 11am

We ordered 6 small plates from the bar bites menu including beef sliders, steak bites, (Terry)mac n cheese and peppered prawns. And a portion of Jack Daniels chicken wings which will always be my favourite 🤤👌🏼

Ideal if there’s a group of you that want a guaranteed table, view of the tv, table service and a 2 minute walk to St James

You might remember a few months ago I shared them at the Young Traders market in Newcastle on Grainger Street. Well Aidan not only won that, he went on to win the regional young traders in Durham, and this weekend instead of his usual pitches at Tynemouth and the Quayside markets he’s in the national final.

We have learnt that whenever I share Newcastle reels I get a load of grief if they don’t include all three - bridges, beaches and castles. ad| I hardly ever accept clothes/jewellery collabs because they’re rarely ‘me’ but I couldn’t turn down this one. The two necklaces gifted to me for my holiday to Crete were from the fabulous North East based @pebbleandpearlboutique 🐚

These are the “White Clover Flower Necklace’ £13 - great for layering and the “Starfish Twist Rope Necklace” £13.50 which I adored. She has many more in the range which you can browse on her etsy shop.

They’re tarnish free, cheaper than similar high street versions you might have seen in Zara, and inspired by our North East coast.

I love local collabs like this that feel like they’re made for me and my life by the sea 🌊

Vampire Rabbit cocktail bar, Newcastle 🦩

ad| Last week I went along to @vampirerabbitnewcastle - the new cocktail bar on the corner just down from Central Station. From speaking to the staff they’ve put a lot of time and effort into creating the cocktail menu and there’s loads to choose from, off the gorgeous illustrated menu.

Live music played while we sat at the Parisian style tables and sipped on spicy margs, aperol spritz and flamingo martinis 🦩 there is a real mix on the menu including some unique creations and old classics.

There’s a few different seating areas to it, including the main bar area, bright and vibey so you could enjoy day drinks or late night bevs, then there’s some quirky cute nooks downstairs to discover too.

A much needed very cool spot at that end of town, make a plan! 🦩🍸🐆

⚽️ only Shearers bar shows untelevised Newcastle matches live as they’re played at St James
⚽️ these all show live games broadcast on the likes of sky sports and TNT
⚽️ Newcastle has no away day pubs, if you’re visiting you’re welcome anywhere (except the new Stack on match days)
⚽️ whenever I share reels like this I get people telling me where I’ve missed, I couldn’t fit any more in feel free to add in the comments

I know some people groan at the start of the new season, but keep in mind I know a LOT of people especially men where match days is the only thing that keeps them going every week, their only time of socialising and forgetting life’s troubles and being amongst people.

St James Park is home, a safe place and somewhere to escape reality for a few hours with your mates and family. It’s got me through some tough times in the past and I for one can’t wait to get back.
