Hoult’s Yard Food Scene In Newcastle

Hoult’s Yard is an increasingly popular local business hub on Walker Road behind Byker, and before you reach Ouseburn. It’s a really diverse space, occupying what used to be a jam jar factory back in the day. Now you’ll find all sorts, from crazy golf, to recruitment agencies, crafts, independent businesses, and of course all Hoult’s Yard food choices.

Hoult's Yard Food Newcastle

The Hoult’s Yard food scene is so diverse and is brought by some of the best independents in Newcastle. We’ve got cake, pizzas, burgers, pancakes and more, as well as tap rooms and cocktails. Hoult’s Yard makes for a pretty good afternoon or evening out.

Cake Stories

The team at Cake Stories expanded from their little shop on Brentwood Avenue in Jesmond, to another premises at Hoult’s Yard in 2021, bringing their home made cakes including lots of vegan options, milkshakes, hot chocolates, coffees and other treats with them. The Hoults Yard premises is bigger, with a quirky outside seating area and two levels of inside seating as well.

You can either sit in or get takeaway, and they are dog friendly. They do amazing brownios – half brownie half giant oreos, as well as their latest offering of letterbox cake boxes which make lovely gifts.

Full Circle Brew Co.

The award winning Full Circle Brew company is a brewery and taproom in Hoults Yard, and they serve their four main beers as well as some extras that are often changing. Visit to shop their gift range, merchandise or build a beer box, or book a table to enjoy on site.

They have an outside terrace that is dog friendly, as well as inside seating. In addition to their selection of beers you can also get ciders, spirits and cocktails. Food wise they’re serving up Naples style pizzas from their on site pizza oven. What a great way to spend an afternoon.

They are open Wednesday – Sunday and you can book a table to visit on the Full Circle Brew Co. website here.

Proven Goods

On weekends from Friday – Sunday, Proven Goods are open in their Hoults Yard premises, serving freshly made doughnuts with all sorts of flavours, and coffee to go with them. They are honestly so good, and so popular you have to get there and stand in the queue for them opening at 10am before they sell out.

They have classics such as the Homer, with pink icing and sprinkles, jam and sugar, and then there are always some more unique and seasonal creations. They do gift boxes to allow you to get them in bulk too.

You can park right outside their warehouse unit, for free up to an hour which is perfect if you do want to sit in. I wrote a review of Proven doughnuts back when they first opened, but for more up to date information and news follow them on Instagram.

2knives Bar & Kitchen

The 2knives bar and kitchen is amazing, in a really cool industrial old building, and they serve juicy burgers, fries and beers, or a big breakfast menu with coffees and soft drinks earlier in the day.

The breakfast menu is all pancake stacks, with different toppings and syrups, but they do have sausage or bacon buns, and a full English option on the menu too. The burger menu has 10 varieties to choose from, two of which are vegan/vegetarian.

Promising a great atmosphere, casual food, cocktails and craft beer 2Knives is a great sociable spot for drinks and food in Hoults Yard.

Tyne Bank Brewery and Tap Room

Tyne Bank Brewery has been around longer than most of the newer tap rooms in Newcastle, and they’re in a big warehouse by Hoults Yard. Open on weekends, they have a huge range of beers, plenty of seating, a beer garden and activities or entertainment to enjoy on site.

They offer brewery tours on a Saturday if you’re interested in the brewing process and Tyne Banks history, and they fully embrace the creative spirit of the Hoult’s Yard and Ouseburn community with the events they host.

These include open mic nights, photo exhibitions, quiz nights and socials for babies – even dogs. You can see the full line up of events on their website here.

As well as the tap room they also open their kitchen, with a Mexican menu that includes nachos, fries, hot dogs and vegan options. If there are specific events you might find some extra food vendors there too.
