Things I’m Loving This Week – 1st -8th August

One thing I’m definitely a fan of is how sunny it’s been for the last few days, however there was a real low point being sat on the metro behind a face mask on both Thursday and Friday with no air con. Melting. Then I have a word with myself again and think of the nhs staff who wear them for hours on end to work and think it’s a small sacrifice to make, and there was a point a few months ago where I’d have given anything for a night or meal out and I think well yeah, a small price to pay.

So I’ll start with that, the end of this week has been busy, full of plans with three days on the trot of meeting up with people for drinks, catching up and a birthday celebration thrown in too. It’s felt like a bank holiday weekend as Kieran had Friday off and it’s been so nice to have real plans again that stretch beyond going for yet another walk. My days haven’t been that productive, with hangovers lingering around more than I’d have liked and some work admin to get my head round but never mind.

On Wednesday I met up with some friends/colleagues at beach box, and it was very refreshing to see them face to face, rather than behind WhatsApp conversations. We drank a lot of wine and I had that really good burger again from the Holy Hobo.

The Eat Out to Help Out scheme is in full swing and although I’ve not actually booked anywhere specific for it yet I have had discounts at Mason & Rye, Costa and Beach Box this week when I happened to be there anyway. There are some really good savings to be had and I think it’s a great initiative if you’re comfortable eating out. I put together this post covering my picks for places in Newcastle, Jesmond, Heaton, Ouseburn and North Tyneside.

A very food based post this week but other highlights were Hana Hana for Caity’s birthday on Thursday followed by some cocktails at Central Shaker, and the food at Horticulture on Friday night especially the prawns.

Friday night was our first girls night out since I can’t even remember when, and I just loved being out again. I’m a big fan of the table service arrangement but I do wish you got tables for a bit longer as it was like a military operation planning and booking them for the right timings. I really enjoyed Horticulture that is a great bar and restaurant.

On to less food related things, I gave in and bought the new Charlotte Tilbury airbrush bronzer this week when I went to town, and like most of her products I was instantly glad I did despite the price tag. It’s definitely a make up bag investment but it goes on like a dream. I went a shade darker than I thought I’d need though so would recommend going into a shop and colour matching before buying. I think if I’d bought online I’d have got the wrong colour and been disappointed.

I bought these tan heels from Dune in the middle of lockdown and I wore them for the first time this week. I love them they’re comfy, easy to walk in and go with everything. I might invest in the black pair too.

And finally i tried on a bridesmaid dress for my sisters wedding this weekend, which was nice to do after I couldn’t go with her and my mum to get her wedding dress. They only allow one person with you at the moment so I had to join via FaceTime. I can’t wait to wear it and for celebrations like that to be back to normal next year. Fingers crossed anyway as I have four weddings already in the diary.

So I feel like I’ve caught up with a lot of different people this week which has been great, and very much needed, but I’m ready for a few days off the drink. Bet we end up in our local later.

Have a great week!
