Paros Greek Restaurant in Heaton, Newcastle
If you’re looking for a Greek dining experience in Newcastle then look no further than Paros Greek restaurant on Chillingham Road. Having grown up on Paros island itself, this family run restaurant serves up authentic Greek food that is some of the best I’ve tasted outside of Greece.
They’re relatively new after only opening their doors in February 2021, with a few months of takeaway only, but now they’re thriving on the busiest street in Heaton. Paros may be fairly small like the island it’s named after, but the flavours are big and so is the wine list.
Paros Greek Restaurant
Even in winter a visit here is like stepping into a Greek taverna, with an airy mediterranean look and feel to it, and countless Greek island scenes and photographs hanging on the wall. White walls, blue rooftops, inviting seascapes and sunny scenes, everything you want from Greece to go with the food.
They have a small outside terrace too with a heater, so for the summer months you can sit outside. It’s best to book a table as with a small space and big popularity you’ll want to make sure you get in.
The Paros restaurant approach to their Greek food is very traditional, taking the herbs, oils, vegetables and wine that Paros island is known for, to flavour up their meats and salads. They use Greek suppliers and altogether with their experience, the result is fresh and delicious food that doesn’t ever feel all that unhealthy.
Paros Restaurant Menu
The Paros menu is typically Greek, and for starters expect things like grilled halloumi, a few meat options like Greek sausage, pork or meatballs, and of course a range of Greek salads, feta, tzatziki and bread and olive choices.
Before I went for the first time one of my friends gave the advice of not actually ordering the bread and tzatziki starter, unless you really want it of course, but you get both of these things and plenty of it with your mains, so you won’t miss out. It was good advice as you do get loads, so choose something else to start for even more variety.
For your main, there is all the Greek favourites and it’s hard to choose. Traditional Moussaka, Stifado and Keftedakia are all there. From the grill choose from a range of meats, the famous gyros with either pork or chicken, mixed grills for between 1 up to 3 people, and souvlaki.
Mains come with fries, salad, tzatziki and pitta bread, and like I said before you get plenty of it. The tzatziki is so good, really authentic and thick rather than the watery stuff you get from the shops here.
You can also order sides of more of the same, olives, dirty fries and salads. The food based on my experiences has always been top notch, so tasty and I’m always torn between the gyros or the souvlaki. If you’re sitting in I’d get a main dish but gyros is the winner for takeaway.
Paros Takeaway
Which brings me on to their takeaway service, which is available through Just Eat, Uber Eats or directly with the restaurant. The text service they run is pretty good and if you do this you often get discounts or offers sent to you for future orders.
Wine wise they have a big selection, and I really enjoy the Greek sauvignon – sorry I can’t remember the name but it was lovely! Ask the waiters for advice on which wine to get if you aren’t sure, I’m not too familiar with Greek wines so it really helped and they’re happy to provide recommendations.
With all the gorgeous Greek island pictures on the wall it definitely doesn’t feel like you’re sat in the middle of Chillingham Road, and it’s a good spot for all scenarios – as a group, date night or family meal. The service is great and reminiscent of the Greek hospitality you always get abroad.
There is free parking available on Chillingham Road but it does get busy with so many shops, takeaways and traffic lights so leave plenty of time.
If you want to visit Paros Greek restaurant it’s best to book, they do take a small deposit but this does come off your bill. It’s by far the best Greek dining experience in Newcastle and even though it’s in Heaton rather than right in the city centre, it’s worth the 5 minute journey out. Be prepared to leave wanting to book a holiday.
Visit the Paros restaurant website here to book, and follow them on Instagram here.
