How to glamp solo…

- choose a luxury place it does make life a lot easier especially if you don’t get good weather
- find somewhere with a hot tub it’s so relaxing
- pay for the pre light of the hot tub, saves hours
- learn quickly how to light fires yourself anyway
- take a book
- plan day trips nearby
- take your favourite treats
- having an enclosed safe space for the dog is ideal
- people love to switch off when glamping but if i’m on my own I really need wifi for the uninterrupted scroll (and safety)
- make a playlist, a lot of luxury glamps have speakers Harry Styles was the soundtrack to my stay here
- don’t forget the wine or coffee, enjoying both outside is a next level wholesome vibe

One for your North East bucket list ✅

On the first Saturday of every month from now, Newcastle City Guides are running half hour tours to the top of Greys Monument. Enjoy 360 views over the Toon from the very top.

It’s just £7 per person to climb the 164 steps up the column, where you can look over Newcastle as far as the eye can see. I couldn’t look directly down but the views were incredible looking out and over.

- count the domes there’s loads more than you realise
- spot 6 of the 7 bridges that cross the river Tyne
- see St James’ standing proud on top of the hill
- view Grey Street often voted on prettiest streets in the UK lists
- look right over Grainger Street and market right down to Central Station
- see the Georgian architecture and Central Arcade from new heights

Every Saturday from 9-4:30 the Market Place in Durham hosts over 30 independent traders to browse. I had a look around a couple of weeks ago and there’s some canny stuff.

📍 Corner House Loft

a d| The second beautiful place I stayed in Cornwall, this time in Mevagissey with @aspects_holidays 🌊

I loved this place, not only was it gorgeous and huge for only sleeping two people, it was right in the centre of town so everything was only 2 minutes walk away.

🛌 sleeps 2 in the comfiest giant bed ever up in the loft space
🛁 quirky bathroom with feature tub and double shower
🍽️ fully equipped kitchen with island seating and dining table
📚 desk working space, wifi, TV, games and books to be connected - or not if you choose
🛋️ seperate living space with two big sofas
🐾 dog friendly, bed and bowls provided
☀️ private outside seating space that was a total sun trap

⛵️ a few minutes walk to the harbour which was the most quaint seaside spot you could find, ice cream, fish and chips, trinket shops, Cornish bakery

I parked the car up and didn’t leave Mevagissey once we got here the apartment and its perfect location was a big part of that. I want to go back here and see all the areas of Cornwall that I didn’t get to.

Looking for somewhere special? 🤩

ad| @1910spanishcity is a dining experience like no other on the North Tyneside coast. And I’m not bias even though it’s home 🫶🏼

1910 is the premium dining offer at Spanish City, with steak and seafood on the menu, and panoramic views of the coast and St Mary’s on the side. On spring/summer evenings it’s absolutely beautiful and a real treat to make an evening of in the champagne bar for a glass of fizz first, followed by dinner and then perhaps a nightcap under the dome.

The set menu is available on Fridays and Saturdays, two courses for £32 and three for £36. Choose from a big range of dishes - we had the prawn cocktail and the garlic oysters* - although I was tempted with the St Mary’s gin oysters to try! 🦪

For mains my mum had the chicken breast and I had the Picanha steak, with a side of garlic prawns* to make it surf and turf.

It was all delicious, and although we didn’t really have room we got ice cream and coffee for dessert which came with some rich chocolate truffles. Indulgence at its best ✨ there was a lot of choice for all tastes I’ll link the menu in my story.

* these dishes were at an added supplement that I paid, and feel like I should mention although it’s steak and seafood there are vegetarian dishes available.

April highlights!

I didn’t have the best start to the month with that horrible rib injury and never ending cough but it definitely improved!

🐾 pottering about and beach trips with my boy
🍽️ some really amazing restaurant invites with great new menus

I’m still not 100% but I’m only getting busier and May is about to start with a much needed girls weekend 🥂

ad| Finally the famous Gaucho brunch has arrived in Newcastle, and it’s like no others 🥩

For £65 per person your Gaucho brunch lasts for two hours and includes:

🍷 up to 8 drinks per person from a selection of cocktails that were definitely not watered down
- house red, white or rosé, the red was lovely with our mains
- lager
- mocktails (non alcoholic brunch is £50pp)

🇦🇷 Unlimited starters including the Argentine sausage plate, beef or sweet potato empanada, burrata with tomato’s and avocado on sourdough, superstraccia salad

🥩 a main course from a choice of steak and eggs, brunch burger, churasco de quadril steak or spaghetti romesco with chips or salad

🍨 chocolate brownie or mango and coconut dessert

It was excellent and worth the price for drinks alone, really good quality cocktails, wine and food👌🏼

Let’s face it many ‘bottomless brunches’ are all about the flowing prosecco and not really about the food, but the Gaucho brunch is all about the whole experience - Latin music and Argentine tango dancers providing entertainment while you get stuck in.

Available on one Saturday per month the next one is 25th May - what a great way to spend bank holiday Saturday

Tipi at the Tempus ☀️

The Tipi opened in the grounds of @thetempus_charltonhall on Saturday night - yes that’s actual sunshine for the occasion too 🕶️

A great addition for a more casual dining option, the tipi has a bar inside with plenty of seating, a fire pit for any cooler evenings, and a pizza van outside serving up a good selection of pizzas to order on the go 🍕

Family and dog friendly, they’ll be open from 4-9pm every Friday and Saturday from now, and there will be live music too.

It will also be handy for anyone staying at @blossom_plantation just across the field

🗓️ Tynemouth Food Festival is just two weeks away!

ad| @tynemouthfoodfest returns to Tynemouth Priory on 11th and 12th May from 10-5pm and there’s some great local vendors going to be there.

It’s always a really popular events so getting tickets in advance guarantees your entry and you have the flexibility to use on either day:

🎟️ £4 adults (plus booking fee), under 15s go free, entry to the Priory is usually more than this so it’s also a good opportunity to enjoy one of our English Heritage coastal landmarks
🐾 Dogs on leads are welcome but won’t be allowed in the marquees

Don’t go to Ginos if you’re looking for a typi

Don’t go to Ginos if you’re looking for a typical standard Italian to have the same dish you have at every Italian restaurant ❌

Ad | Ginos is for LOADS of flavour, trying something new, looking beyond the margarita pizza or carbonara and having so much choice you need a few more minutes to decide, while feeling like you’re somewhere far from Newcastle if it wasn’t for the bridge view to remind you.

That’s how I feel there anyway, always a favourite of mine and the menu additions for this summer are good - and there’s a lot of them!

The lighter nights make it a perfect spot to make a night of it, with a cocktail in the bar and a bottle of Bardolino at the table - my favourite from the rosé wine tasting we did here last summer.

We then both had the ragu arancini which were mouth watering, and then I had the prawn ravioli and beth had the fettuccine with king prawns that I must return to have soon. We finished off with the chocolate fondant and three scoop gelato 🍧 All of it was faultless I thoroughly enjoyed.

As always I could have chosen multiple things for each course, and the new additions are marked which is very helpful. The bruschetta starters are always amazing, but here’s some of the new dishes that caught my eye on the menu:

Tuscan style ribs have me reminiscing of Florence
Risotto primavera
Spaghetti with lobster
Salmon with garlic and butter sauce - all very tempting for evening dishes and then perhaps for a long lazy lunch I’d go for either the peppered tuna steak or the Italian style cheeseburger.

In case you can’t tell Ginos is one of my favourite Italians and we had a lovely evening and good catch up over great food. I’d really encourage you to try something new if you visit 🇮🇹

New-ness at Pleased to Meet You! 🍸

Both the cocktail and the food menu at @ptmynewcastle have had a change for spring/summer and I was invited on Monday to try it out (ad)

The cocktails are always made well here and I really enjoyed the Mary Phillips with Edinburgh gin, and raspberry, apricot and grapefruit flavours - very summery 🍑

Other cocktails - PTMY no 1, mango and chilli margarita, and I’m livid at myself for not ordering the raspberry and coconut or the vanilla espresso martini as both looked amazing 🍸

Food wise another lovely curated seasonal menu, that you could enjoy as a nice meal out or some of the starters would be good for sharers in their outside booths when it eventually warms up:

Starters included - pea and mint arancini 👌🏼, ham hock terrine, spiced hummus and apple and fennel salad. The terrine and arancini would be my go to again!

Mains - lamb of course with shallot, asparagus and carrot puree, pan seared salmon with crushed new potatoes and veg, chicken with veg and a lovely lamb madras.

It all tasted beautiful but the salmon and potatoes really were beaut 🤤

Cocktails at PTMY are 2 for £12 Sunday - Friday between 5-9pm
