The Best Winter Spa Deals in The North East

Earlier this week I spent three whole nights researching spa deals for later this month, as it’s always a good time to bag a good deal. There are SO MANY offers available on one night stays, spa days, and even half days, but a lot of them are for midweek. If you’re like me and need roaring fires, massages and switch off time to look forward to at the end of January, February and March then here’s all the best winter spa deals in the North East available now.

Many places have great deals on one night stays, that come with full access to their spa facilities. It’s actually sometimes better to book these if you want real value for money as well as time in a spa so its worth checking ‘all offers’ rather than just ‘spa offers’ on each website. You could end up spending less for dinner, bed and breakfast with access to the spa facilities, for the same price or cheaper than you would spend on a spa day or half day.

We ended up booking an offer like that ourselves, and it worked out £60 cheaper even on a Saturday night.

Seaham Hall

This 5 star country house hotel is absolutely stunning, and the Serenity Spa is one of the biggest spas I’ve ever been to, with a huge range of treatment rooms, fitness and relaxation options. The whole spa complex is luxurious and relaxing, set apart from the main hotel it’s perfect for both hotel guests or day visitors. There are relaxation areas, a big indoor pool, a fabulous outdoor hydrotherapy pool, hot tubs, plunge pools, sauna and steam rooms, and an Asian Ozone restaurant.

Spa days on offer:

Ishga Well for Winter Full Day Spa Day: This 9-5 full day spa includes access to all spa facilities, a two course lunch in the Ozone restaurant, and a 60 minute hand, foot and scalp treatment. The website states that it was only available until end of December, but as it’s detailed on site I’m assuming it is still available to book if you call up.

Price: £125 per person Monday – Friday, £135 per person Saturday & Sunday.

I had a sample of this spa day before Christmas, when I was invited to the Serenity Spa for a showcase evening.

Half day spa days are also available:

Serenity Sunrise: Between 8:30 and !2pm you will receive breakfast in the form of pastries and a hot drink, access to the full suite of facilities, and access to one of the specialised fitness classes.

Price £50 per person Monday – Friday, £55 per person at weekends.

Evening Spa: Between 5-10pm and includes a two course meal in the restaurant, a 45 minute massage or facial, and full use of spa facilities.

Price £95 per person Sunday – Thursday, £99 per person Friday & Saturday.

Twilight Spa: one for later in the evening 6pm – 10pm, you get full access to the facilities, and a two course meal in Ozone restaurant. You can upgrade to include a glass of fizz too.

Price £62.50 per person Sunday – Thursday, £67.50 Friday & Saturday.

Lazy Sunday Spa Day: This is actually a half day, and you choose either morning from 8am-12pm in the spa followed by two course Sunday lunch, or lunch first between 1-2pm followed by the spa until 5:30pm. This is £75 per person and obviously only available on Sundays, but you can upgrade this cost to include a 35 minute massage for £40.

If you don’t mind paying extra for spa treatments then Seaham Hall is one of the places that has a good one night stay offer available until the start of April. Their Crisp Days & Cooler Nights offer is £195 for two people and includes a hotel stay in a junior suite, breakfast, and access to the spa facilities from check in until check out.

Ramside Hall

A hotel and spa I’ve never actually been to (yet!) but one that always gets great write ups, and they have some exciting changes this year with the arrival of their luxury tree houses. The 4 star hall located in County Durham offers both spa and golf breaks, and the following are pretty good deals.

Stay & Spa standard break: This includes a one night stay and full access to the spa facilities for the duration of your stay. It’s available Monday – Thursday and priced at £149 per couple I think this is very reasonable.

Spa Sunday Lazy Monday: This includes an overnight stay, full use of the spa from when you check in right up to 5pm on the Monday, breakfast in their spa restaurant Fusion, an allocation of £25 towards dinner in either Fusion or their Rib Room, and a 45 minute treatment each.

It may seem pricey for a deal at £329 per couple but again I think its a good one for the amount that you get. And who doesn’t love a Monday in a spa when everyone else is at work?

Mini Spa Break: This one is similar to the standard spa break but includes a mud rasul therapy treatment too. Breakfast isn’t included but I can’t see day restrictions, and it’s £169 per couple.

Headlam Hall

This 17th century house in Darlington has a spa complex separate to the main hall, where you can stay in one of the spa rooms above. I have really enjoyed some spa days here, but it is quite small and secluded so if it’s busy it’s sometimes not easy to get a lounger.

The spa offers they currently have include:

January Fizz: Available through January this one is excellent value for one night stays Sunday – Friday. It includes a one night stay in the main hall, a spa suite or a mews, breakfast, a bottle of champagne in your room, a three course dinner and access to the spa for the duration of your stay.

I think this one is excellent value, priced at £99 per person based on two people staying.

Spa Snuggler Break: This one made my shortlist, but unfortunately it isn’t available on Saturday nights so we couldn’t book, but it is a really good offer if you can stay Monday – Friday in either January or February.

You will get accommodation in the main hall, a spa room or a mews, breakfast, three course dinner, access to all spa facilities, and 20% off any 60 minute treatment.

At £99 per person I think this one is great value.

Headlam have a really big range of half and full day spas year round, too many to list them all but it’s worth spending some time looking through them if this is what you fancy. Some of the best in my opinion include:

Restorative Spa Half Day: 11am-4pm, brunch on arrival, a 45 minute detox body or facial treatment – £70pp available January – February.

Saturday Package: 10am-1pm, smoothie, tea or coffee on arrival, two course lunch in the spa brasserie, and a 60 minute treatment after lunch but you are required to pay the cost of this in addition to the £40 per person for the day.

Secluded Sunday Package: There are three options for this, all include a treatment and five hours spa access, but come with a different meal. You can choose either a breakfast, Sunday dinner, or afternoon tea package depending on your preference. This is £90 per person.

Rockliffe Hall

One of my favourites, Rockliffe Hall in Darlington is one of those places where you feel like you’ve been away a week after just an hour. The private spa garden is one of my favourite extras to add on to any stay, with the infinity pool overlooking the gardens, and the waiter service that bring you wine and frozen grapes.

Rockliffe HallPIN IT

They’ve recently renovated the spa too so I’d be interested to hear what it’s like if anyone goes. Here are my picks of their best spa offers:

Warm & Toasty Spa Day: arrive at 9am to a hot drink with toast in the Brasserie, followed by full use of the spa facilities including outdoor hot tub, thermal suite, hydro pool and gym. You also get a 60 minute comfort touch body cocoon treatment which sounds absolutely delightful in winter.

Price: £120 per person, 2 hours in the spa garden can be added at an extra cost.

Rockliffe HallPIN IT

Wintermacy Break: A really good value for money offer considering the usual cost of Rockliffe Hall, this break includes accommodation as standard in a Tiplady Lodge bedroom (additional cost for other rooms apply, I’d recommend the New Hall bedrooms), full use of the spa and all facilities from check in – check out, access to adventure play, tennis courts, curious cabins and nature trails, breakfast, 50% off accommodation upgrades and if you stay for two nights you also get a 45 minute mud rasul treatment.

Another I would have loved to book but the offer is available Sunday – Thursday, at just £155 per room (room, not per person!) or £265 per room which includes dinner. This is a brilliant offer for Rockliffe Hall if you can take a midweek day off.

See all Rockliffe Hall Hotel and Spa offers here.

Take a look at some of my past experiences of Rockliffe Hall here, but I’ve only ever been in the summer, and for this winter they have a few good spa deals on. I’d love to wake up to snow here it looks absolutely gorgeous.

Wynyard Hall

Located in the Tees Valley I’ve not been myself but again I hear nothing but good reviews. Dannielle Lily has been to Wynyard, and her review sounds pretty idyllic, she even got snow. Wynyard have some winter offers that are worth considering, some are on the pricier side but the plus is that all are available on Friday and Saturdays if you don’t want to take time off.

Exclusive Winter Retreat: This is available on Friday and Saturdays through January, at the slightly higher one night cost of £299 per couple. It includes an executive suite room, a bottle of prosecco, 3 course dinner in the Wellington Restaurant, 2 hour use of the spa facilities, and 20% off treatments.

Winter Warmer: A reasonable £169 per couple will give you a country classic bedroom on Friday or Saturdays in January, with extras including a 2 course dinner in the Wellington Restaurant, discounted use of the spa at £25 per person, and 20% off spa treatments.

Winter Indulgence: This offer is the same as above, except for £225 you get a superior double bedroom rather than a classic bedroom, and a bottle of prosecco in your room.

Matfen Hall

A gem in the Northumberland countryside, Matfen Hall offers luxurious relaxation, an 18 hole golf course, spa facilities and Go Ape hidden among the trees. This one was hard to research as they have so many offers available, but here are a couple I’ve picked out especially for winter in January – February.

Winter Wonder Sublime spa day: Only available to the end of January, the spa day includes a welcome drink, spa use from 9-5pm, lunch and 2 hours of treatments including a full body exfoliation, full body massage and a facial. If you’re specifically looking for treatments rather than just access to facilities it’s a good offer to go with, at £99 per person. I bet you’d come away feeling like a new person.

Back to Vitality spa break: An one night stay in a classic bedroom, Northumbrian breakfast, glass of fizz, full use of spa facilities and a 40 minute spa treatment are included in this offer available until the end of February. I think it’s excellent value at just £89 per person Sunday – Thursday, or with a £30 supplement for the room on a Friday or Saturday. There is also the option to add on dinner in either the conservatory or library restaurants.

Romantic Hideaway: This couples break is available until 1st March, and includes an overnight stay in a classic room, Northumbrian breakfast, an Elemis goodie bag, £20 per person to spend either on room service or in the conservatory bar, a bottle of wine and chocolates, and full use of the spa facilities for your stay.

You get all this for £79 per person Sunday – Thursday, and there are discounted room upgrades available, and the option to add on food options in both restaurants too.

Walwick Hall

Another Northumberland hotel and spa near Hexham, I really enjoyed our stay at Walwick Hall a couple of years ago and I’m quite sad we’ve not yet been back. I had the best nights sleep after a lie by the pool, a massage and delicious dinner.

Walwick HallPIN IT

Walwick have a number of offers available on their offers page, including Valentine’s deals and accommodation offers, but here are a couple of their winter offers.

January Blues: basically it’s 15% off your accommodation, which varies depending on date, and the room that you choose. In addition to this you get a welcome drink on arrival (I’d recommend their cocktails), dinner for two in the dining room, full access to the spa, and a full English breakfast.

Winter Warmer: From £385 per couple, so not exactly cheap but includes a luxury night’s stay, welcome drink, a 60 minute warm candle massage, dinner for 2 in the dining room, full spa access and full English breakfast.

Slaley Hall

Slaley Hall near Hexham may be one of the older North East spas but it’s still great if you want a reasonably priced deal in the next month or so. I went for a Christmas showcase last year and loved the drawing room with the big fire, and I know plenty of people who have really enjoyed both food and spa experiences there recently.

Slaley HallPIN IT

Winter sale: This offer is running at the moment, which includes 30% off one night stays, breakfast included, full access to spa and golf facilities, and 20% off pre booked spa treatments.

Winter spa break: This one or two night spa break from £109 per person includes breakfast, evening meal, and then either 1, 2 or 3 treatments depending on how long you stay, and if you book for January or February a free detox cocktail and nutritional guide too.

Slaley HallPIN IT

The following spas I haven’t been to personally but all offer some great winter spa deals for January – March:

Doxford Hall: 20% off midweek, bed and breakfast stays through January, 2 night stays from Sunday – Thursday for £178 per room bed and breakfast until the end of January, and Sunday night specials from £154 per room. All include breakfast and full access to spa facilities as standard.

See the full range of Doxford Hall offers here.

The Garage Spa: Day spa packages at £129 available every day that include lunch, full access to facilities and a 50 minute treatment. Afternoon tea packages, twilight and half day packages and high end luxury breaks.

See the full range of Garage Spa deals here.

I had initially intended to share every spa deal I looked at in this post, but I wasn’t kidding when I said I spent so long researching the list was huge. As this post is already quite long I’m going to break out the ones I found in North Yorkshire and the Lake District into a separate post. There’s plenty to be getting on with here but look out for part 2 later this week!
